THE LAST DAYS OF JUDAS ISCARIOT by Stephen Adly Guirgis
Directed by Marty Stanberry

September 8th - September 23rd, 2006 (Preview September 7th)
The ArtLoft Theatre, 1529 Washington Ave (Map)

What do you get when you put on trial the most controversial "betrayer" in history? Mix in his sexy defense attorney, a womanizing prosecutor, and an ill-tempered judge - then add a motley crew of witnesses including a not so saintly Mother Theresa, a cocaine sniffing Sigmund Freud, and a silver-tongued Satan? The Last Days of Judas Iscariot - an imagined, time-bending, politically incorrect court case between "God and the Kingdom of Heaven vs. Judas Iscariot." Playwright Stephen Adly Guirgis deftly combines chaotic farce and contemporary hip-hop street talk with "that old time religion" to ask big questions about "the ultimate betrayal," the political and spiritual disorder of our world today, and the universal nature of forgiveness. This play was first produced Off-Broadway in 2004, directed by Philip Seymour Hoffman and featured an all-star cast including Sam Rockwell and Eric Bogosian. HotCity Theatre is proud to present the regional premiere of this hilarious, ground-breaking and controversial new work.
